The Pakistan Cricket Board promised to restructure the game on Sunday after the team's shock World Cup exit. "I am deeply disturbed and disappointed like the rest of the nation over this performance," Dr Nasim Ashraf, chairman of the board, said.
Former world champions, Pakistan lost to unfancied Ireland on Saturday in a Group D match to tumble out of the World Cup. "We are as disturbed over the result as the rest of the nation," said Ashraf.
Ashraf said since he took over the board six months ago it was decided to maintain continuity and stability in the team to achieve the best results in the World Cup.
"That was the best short-term option available to us. But now a comprehensive new structure and plan will be launched after the World Cup for the development of Pakistan cricket," he said. A meeting of a PCB ad-hoc committee will be held on March 31 following the team's return from the West Indies. Ashraf said the meeting would finalise plans for the future to build a strong cricket set-up.
It was widely expected that the board would replace Inzamam-ul-Haq, 37, as captain and not retain Bob Woolmer as coach after his contract expires in June following the early exit from the World Cup.
