The Collectorates of Customs, Peshawar and Quetta have started confiscating non-duty paid buses and trucks earlier cleared on payment of 30 percent redemption fine.
Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that the collectorates were actually implementing the amended SRO. 547(I)/2005 at their respective customs stations since last Saturday.
Most of the confiscated trucks brought for clearance on payment of fine along with duties and taxes were old model six wheelers. Collectors, Adjudication had cleared thousands of trucks/buses without age limit during the amnesty scheme period.
Sources said nobody would now bring non-duty paid buses and trucks for clearance after withdrawal of the facility. According to the amended notification, "no option shall be given to pay fine in lieu of confiscation in respect of the following goods or classes of goods: Smuggled goods including buses, trucks and chassie thereof falling under clause(s) of Section 2 of the Customs Act, 1969 (IV of 1969) excluding other vehicles with non-tampered chassie frame and auto-parts imported in used or second hand condition."
