Pakistan Carpet Manufactures and Exporters Association has demanded of the government to give 6 percent rebate on carpet exports and provide free of cost electricity to the industry.
Easy loans should also be provided to the labourers of hand-made carpets so that they could live a better and prosperous life and bring up their children in a better environment, said Mian Javed-ur-Rehman, chief of the Association, in a meeting before leaving for China along with a delegation, on Sunday. Other members of the delegation included Waqar Rashid, Abdul Latif Malik, Major Akhtar Nazir, Shahid Malik and ex-Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) chief Pervez Hanif. During the 10-day stay in China, the delegation members will meet high officials of Chinese Government, carpet manufactures and labourers of the carpet industry.
Mian Javed said that Pakistani hand-made carpets are very much liked in western countries, therefore, to uplift this industry, exhibitions at international level are need of the hour, but unfortunately the government functionaries are not taking interest.
He further said that he, along with other office-bearers of the Association, held separate meetings with Chairman Central Board of Revenue, Director General Trade Development Authority Pakistan and Customs officials to apprise them of the difficulties and problems of the carpet industry and they assured them for early redressal of their complaints.
