On the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Technical Education and Vocational Authority (Tevta) has started work on a comprehensive plan to impart technical training to the students of religious seminaries in Punjab besides the education of Quran-o-Sunnah.
Under this project, 100 technical training centres are being opened in religious seminaries of the province. These views were expressed by the Parliamentary Secretary for Tevta and Chief Co-ordinator to Chief Minister Punjab, Rubina Sulehri Noor while presiding over a high level meeting of Tevta officers here on Thursday, disclosed an official.
The secretary said that the short courses of three to six months duration, regarding repairing of electronic equipment and mobile phones, machine embroidery, computer courses, electrical wiring, tractor operator, refrigeration and air-conditioning, welding, wiremen, auto-electrician, auto-mechanic, fabric printing and other courses are being introduced under this project.
She said that final shape has been given to set up technical training centres in 38 religious seminaries in which two are being set up in Gujranwala and Hafizabad, seven in Sialkot and Narowal, four in Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin, four in Okara and Kasur, four in Lahore, seven in Sahiwal and Pakpattan, three in Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib and one each in Rawalpindi and Lodhran.
According to her, an agreement has been signed with the administration of five religious seminaries to set up technical centres at Khanewal and Vehari and soon training would be started there. This project is very vital and would be useful to change the impression of foreign countries about Madaris and it would also help alleviation of poverty in the province and students of religious seminaries would be able to get proper jobs in private sector.
