The law enforcement agencies on Monday started crackdown against the opposition parties putting Qazi Hussain Ahmed, president of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal under house arrest to foil the planned protest in front of Supreme Court on Tuesday.
In order to express solidarity with the lawyers community and in support of suspended chief justice of Pakistan, all the opposition parties had decided to hold protest demonstrations in front of Supreme Court on Tuesday when the Supreme Judicial Council will hear the presidential reference against the dysfunctional CJP.
Mian Mohammad Alam, MNA confirmed that Islamabad police had put Qazi Hussain Ahmed under house-arrest at his Islamabad residence and a number of other MMA's activists, including Iftikhar Shah, Raja Tariq and Jamil Khokhar were also arrested.
He feared that more activists are likely to be arrested in the night. He condemned the pre-emptive action of the government by barring politicians from exercising their basic constitutional right for holding a peaceful protest.
Pakistan People Party and Pakistan Muslim League (N) have also reported arrest of dozens of their activists from the twin cities but they did not confirm arrest of any of their leaders till filling of this report.
Spokesman of the PPP, Nazir Dhoki said that police had arrested dozens of PPP's activists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad and had shifted them to undisclosed places. PML-N sources said that reports were received about arrest of its two party workers from Rawalpindi.
