A four-member delegation of Indian businessmen visited Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and discussed the possibilities for enhancing business cooperation between the two sides.
The delegation was led by President PHDCCI Sanjay Bhatia and comprised of Ravi Wig, ex-President PHDCCI, P.K. Rajgarhia, former President PHDCCI and Krishn Kaira. PHDCCI is a Chamber of Commerce & Industry representing 11 Indian states. The delegation members told that Pakistani products could compete in quality and price as the same are in heavy demand in Indian market.
The leader of the delegation hoped that volume of trade between India and Pakistan would be doubled by the year 2007. He suggested for increasing trade through land routes to make it more economical. Bhatia said that 400 million middle class of India prefers to use Pakistani products and Pakistan can find a huge market in India. Nevertheless, trade between the two countries would be beneficial for both sides. He said that 40 percent population on both side lives below poverty line and mutual trade would help alleviate this.
The other delegation members were of the view that both India and Pakistan had developed the most cordial relations under the present regime and situation was ideal now for promotion of trade. The delegation also wished to promote tourism on bilateral basis for which they believed there was huge potential.
