Speaker National Assembly of Iran Dr Ghulam Ali Haddad Adil has said that the relations between Pakistan and Iran are exemplary and based on Islamic brotherhood. He stated this during a special lecture at Dr Pervaiz Hassan Environmental Law Centre here on Friday. Acting vice-chancellor Punjab University Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt presided over the ceremony.
Dr Adil said that Lahore was the centre of Persian language and had produced renowned scholars who played vital role for the promotion of the language. Paying tributes to Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Dr Adil said that there were two leaders of Pakistan one is Quaid-e-Azam and the other is Allama Iqbal who gave the idea of a separate Islamic country.
He said that Iqbal was a multi-dimensional personality and a man with great abilities. He spread his message of "Khudi" (self-respect) among the Muslims through his poetry. He said that Muslims all over the world could make much progress by acting upon his messages.
Talking about Pak-Iran ties, he said that both the countries enjoyed strong relations and he felt proud to be in Punjab University, which was the oldest university of the country.
He said that PU played very important role in the promotion of Persian language. He hoped that universities of both countries would take measures strengthen relations in the field of education.
Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning, Professor Dr Muhammad Mazhar Saleem said there was a long history of cultural relations of Pakistan and Iran and stressed the need for strengthening it. He said that all faculty members of PU Department of Persian are Ph D degree holders and many of them have earned their degrees from Iran.
Chairman Organising Committee Professor Dr Dil Muhammad Malik welcomed the guests and thanked them on their arrival at the university. He appreciated the research traditions of Iranians.
