Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has revealed that the Pakistan Railways has decided to run Lahore-Narowal express train to facilitate passengers.
He was addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said that the government had taken this decision to facilitate the passengers and he was also committed to increasing the speed of the Lahore-Narowal trains up to 100 km/h after improving the tracks.
"The government has also decided to double the rail track between Lahore and Rawalpindi; this project would commence from Lahore to Gujranwala and Rawalpindi to Gujar Khan," he added.
"Privatisation of tickets collection on various sections of Pakistan Railways is also under consideration. Pakistan Railways has surpassed its revenue earning targets and launched 30 new trains. Peshawar-Rawalpindi train would be closed because it is running in loss," he told the journalists.
Talking about National Accountability Bureau (NAB) cell, he pointed out that its closure does not mean that investigations regarding foreign assets of Benazir Bhutto and other politicians would also close. He also revealed that the results of the negotiation between the government and PPP leader would be made public in a few days and added that he had always referred to negotiations and not 'deal'.
He maintained that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would continue as the premier of the country till new elections and dispelled the chances of dissolution of the assemblies.
