MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Wednesday appeals to PPP-Parliamentarians to join hands with Opposition in expressing solidarity with dysfunctional Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on April 12 on the occasion of the hearing presidential reference against him.
Talking to newsmen here at Al-Markaz-e-Islami, provincial headquarters of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), NWFP, he said they were constantly in touch with the leadership of all opposition parties, including Makhdoom Amin Faheem of PPP-Parliamentarians for joint struggle against the rulers.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Naib Amir Professor Ghafoor Ahmad said that although the elected governments of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif have also conspired to weaken judiciary. However, he lamented that President General Pervez Musharraf has also attempted last nail in the coffin of judiciary with calling the top adjudicator of the country to the Presidential Camp Office and seeking his resignation.
He said the rulers were intentionally creating anarchy in the country to provide justification for their rule. Professor Ghafoor attributed the ongoing sectarian killings in Kurram Agency, conflict between locals in foreigners in Wana and a religious conflict between two groups in Khyber Agency to British era divide and rule philosophy.
He was all praise for the struggle of lawyers community for independence of judiciary and lauded the non-functional Chief Justice, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudry, for declining to succumb to pressure and tender resignation from his post.
He said that 2007 was the year of general elections and President Musharraf with opening such kind of fronts was deliberately playing havoc with the peace of the country.
Professor Ghafoor said that President Musharraf has came to power through trampling on the constitution and consecutively violating the constitution of the country. The constitution, he said, does not permit any president to run the election campaign of a particular political party.
However, President Musharraf himself was holding public meeting to mould public opinion in favour of the ruling party. Others present on the occasion were NWFP JI Amir Siraj-ul-Haq, Liaquat Baluch, Dr Mohammad Iqbal Khalil, and others.
