A regiment of artillery "Ekasi" installed 'Colonel of the Regiment' to celebrate their 36th 'Raising Day' here on Saturday. Lieutenant General Shafaat Ullah Shah, Corps Commander Lahore was the chief guest.
He, along with General Officer Commanding Major General Raheel Sharif pinned the badges of rank on to the shoulders of new colonel of the regiment Brigadier Muhammad Iafar Iqbal Awan, a celebrated soldier of Pakistan Army.
The simple but impressive ceremony was attended by General Officer Commanding Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan, Brigadier Tahir Mahmood Zahid Commandant Artillery Centre, Brigadier Muhammad Javaid Commander Corps Artillery, Brigadier Maqsood Ahmad Abbasi Commander Artillery Division, a large number of serving and retired officers, junior commissioned officers and Jawans of the regiment.
Addressing the ceremony, Lieutenant General Shafaat Ullah Shah paid glowing tributes to the professional acumen of Brigadier Muhammad Iqbal and expressed the confidence that the regiment would touch new heights of professionalism under the able and matured guidance of its new colonel.
He said that the courage and dedication demonstrated by the officers and Jawans both during war and peace-time had earned the regiment a place of glory and pride in Pakistan Army that has reposed full confidence in the professional performance and combat skill of the artillery regiment.
