Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal has highlighted the contribution of Pakistan towards international war on terrorism, saying that Pakistan has utilised all its efforts against the terrorism. He was talking to a defence delegation of New Zealand led by Defence, Trade and Disarmament Minister Phil Goof, who called on him here on Monday in the defence ministry.
Rear Admiral Tanveer Faiz, Defence Additional Secretary were also present in the meeting. Rao Sikandar Iqbal said that both the countries (Pakistan and New Zealand) have common vision on several issues, including international terrorism and defence co-operation. Both countries should come closer to get benefits from the experiences of each other.
He said that Pakistan believes in international peace and its efforts for maintaining the peace globally are being appreciated world over. Rao Sikandar Iqbal said that Pakistan has played a great role in peace keeping in different conflict regions. "At present, more than 10,000 Pakistan Army troops are working under the banner of United Nations Peace Keeping and discharging their services for peace and security", he added.
Phil Goof appreciated the efforts of Pakistan in international war on terrorism, saying that both the countries should enhance the defence and the economic cooperation. Both the ministers have discussed the matters of bilateral interest and international importance during the meeting. They have agreed to enhance the bilateral defence co-operation.
