The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to seek approval of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to initiate action against the customs and excise officials allegedly involved in illegal payment of excise duty refund to the pay phone companies.
Sources told Business Recorder on Monday that Board had suspended some sales tax officials who were involved in the scam. The charge sheets have been finalised, which would be sent for PM's approval before taking any action. Formal charge sheets would be issued to them on completion of legal formalities, sources added.
