Chairman, Wapda has appreciated that most of the Distribution Companies of Wapda have recovered their dues as per their target for the first eight months of the financial year 2006-07.
He was presiding over the periodical Review Conference of Chief Executive Officers (GEOs) of generation and distribution companies (DISCOs) and National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) here on Tuesday.
The Chairman stressed upon the need of speeding up the recovery during the remaining months of the FY 2006-07, as collecting their dues beyond the target will certainly add to their financial health, which is much needed at the moment. However, the Chairman expressed his concern about the performance of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (TESCO) as they are lagging much behind of their targets.
Chief Executive Officers of DISCOs briefed the meeting about the performance of their respective companies in various fields of activities including reduction in line losses, billing and collection of dues, village electrification and future development schemes etc.
The Chairman hoped that Wapda would meet its target of electrifying 15,000 villages of ten and more houses by the end of June this year.
He disclosed that the experiment of giving financial autonomy to Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) with effect from April 1, is being closely monitored and the remaining DISCOs will be given financial autonomy from July 1, 2007 in the light of the experience of IESCO.
Referring to the Energy Conservation Plan of Wapda, the Chairman directed the CEOs to pursue various categories of Wapda consumers to follow the steps for conserving electricity as suggested to them through media and electricity bills, as this will not only help in saving electricity but also reducing their financial burden.
