Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that adequate efforts were being made for converting Pakistan Railway into a profitable organisation of the country.
Addressing a big public meeting Narowal district on Tuesday he said that huge funds were being spent on the improvement of railway tracks and modernisation of railway adding that dual track between Lahore-Karachi would be accomplished in stipulated period and work on the project is in full swing.
On the pressing demand of the people Sheikh Rashid Ahmad directed the railway authorities that a feasibility of Shakargrah-Lahore track should be prepared aimed at restarting train service from the area. In order to protect the railway land from land mafia Pakistan Railway had adopted appropriate measures for obtaining the possession of land he said.
Sheikh Rashid revealed that only One Lakh kanal of land had been grabbed in Multan and we are making all out efforts for getting the possession amicably adding that Pakistan Railway had sold its land amounting to more than Rs 2.58 billion in Karachi.
He stressed upon the people that should extend their co-operation and support in generating revenue of Pakistan Railway by ensuring travelling through tickets.
The timely support of the railway passengers would help increasing the income and it will help Pakistan Railway to initiate its new development plan for providing better travelling services to the masses he added.
Sheikh Rashid disclosed that central track of Pakistan Railway was generating 90 percent of the total revenue adding that if travellers belonging remote and small areas should extend their co-operation the revenue would be increased to many folds in the country.
The Railway Minister disclosed that 400 coaches would soon be inducted for providing comfortable travelling facilities to the railway passengers while special attention had been accorded on improvement of railway tracks aimed at enhancing the speed of the trains in the country.
On this occasion the Railway Minister announced a special grant of Rs 10 crore for improvement of railway track between Narowal-Lahore section adding that the accomplishment of improvement of track would surely help reduce the travelling distance and time between Narowal-Lahore.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmad urged upon the people that they should shun their petty differences and work for the development of the country.
The upcoming general elections had a great significance and importance in the political history of the country and people should elect honest, capable and devoted persons in the elections he added.
District Nazim Narowal, prominent pop singer Abrar-ul-Haq and many others also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, the Railway Minister along with elected representatives and high ranking railway officers inaugurated Sahar express.
