The Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has observed that the amendments in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate 1988 would give an effective voice to the representatives of the masses and make Senate more effective.
The committee met with Senator Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi (Retd) in the chair here on Tuesday. The Chairman of the Committee appreciated the efforts and time contributed by both the members and the movers for amending and upgrading the Rules of Procedure and said that it would help achieve the objective of smooth functioning of the Senate and strengthen democracy and the Parliament.
He said the rules had been made more public-friendly so that problems faced by the masses were quickly and effectively taken up by the Senate.
Through these amendments, supremacy of the parliament and dignity of the Upper house would be duly ensured as enshrined in the constitution, opined the chairman.
A large number of Rules of Procedure were amended today. The Chairman said that Rules of Procedure have been brought in line with the rules being followed by the leading parliaments the world over.
Besides the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi (Retd) the meeting was also attended by Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Senators Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Saadia Abbasi, Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, Kamran Murtaza, Naeem Hussain Chattha, Dr Muhammad Ismail Buledi and Dr Khalid Ranjha.
