Pakistan Peoples Party on Tuesday refuted government's claims of striking a deal, saying it was not ready to sit in a 'sinking boat'. "We don't deny contacts with (President Musharraf) emissaries but we are saying categorically that we have not accepted any proposal so far," MNA Nayyar Hussain Bukhari told a news conference here.
He was flanked by MNA Ghulam Murtaza Satti and Nazim Satellite Town Mian Imran Hayat. Bukhari said PPP Chairperson was misquoted by Sunday Times newspaper. "In fact it was a telephonic conversation in which she said I can't deal but it was published as I want deal," he clarified.
He said Benazir Bhutto has made it clear a number of times that uniform and democracy cannot go hand in hand. "There is no deal at all. I challenge Sheikh Rashid to produce contents of the deal if he is so much informative," he said in reply to a question.
Nayyar Bukhari, who is a member of the National Assembly from the rural areas of the federal capital, said President Musharraf had approached PPP chairperson before even taking oath of the Chief Executive but their party believes in true democracy.
When asked about closure of National Accountability Bureau special cell, he said it had lost its utility. He demanded of the government to hold free and fair election under an impartial caretaker set up.
PPP leader also came hard on religio-political alliance, saying it was a 'mullah military alliance'. Speaking about the judicial crisis, Bukhari said it was a decisive movement and PPP would strongly protest against the presidential reference.
