Two of Egypt's Red Sea ports closed on Wednesday because of choppy waters and a sandstorm that reduced visibility, state news agency Mena said. A Red Sea Ports authority official said the ports of Hurghada and Safaga had been closed, according to Mena.
Earlier on Wednesday, five Egyptian ports further north in the Gulf of Suez reopened after a sandstorm across much of the country on Tuesday. The five Gulf of Suez ports are el-Adabia, Port Tawfik, el-Atka, el-Sukhna and el-Zeitia. On Tuesday, Cairo's international airport was closed on and off because of reduced visibility, but was operating normally on Wednesday, officials said.
