The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Wednesday said there will be no difficulty to any of the province regarding their indent during the Kharif crop. According to Irsa's spokesman, the Authority is diligently watching the situation and vital assistance is being extended to Wapda to minimise the energy crisis in the country.
He said from April 16 total release from the two dams were increased to 86,550 cusec, out of which more than 50 percent is meant for power generation needs. Irsa is confident that the additional release over and above the provincial demands would not affect the future agricultural requirements due to promising availability of water.
The spokesman said due to above normal rains and snowfall in the winter sufficient water is presently available in the dams, which is being utilised for the hydel power in the larger interest of the nation.
He said for the last few days power shortages in the country are being attributed to the restricted release from the reservoirs by Irsa. On the contrary, the factual position is that the Authority has been indenting the release from the reservoirs over and above the actual requirements of agriculture to accommodate power needs of the country, the spokesman added.
