Lawyers continued their protest on Friday against the government for its disregard to the independence of judiciary and making Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry dysfunctional.
Lawyers observed one-hour token boycott of court proceedings in the city courts and the Sindh High Court. During the suspension of work lawyers held corner meetings to condemn the on going tiff between the lawyers community and the government. It was generally felt that the action against the chief justice has belittled the status of the entire institution people look on for justice.
In view of the lawyers it will be in the fitness of things if the issues relating to judiciary and judicial officials are resolved without leaving to complicate further. Chairman Human Rights Committee of the Sindh High Court Bar Aaqil Lodhi told Business Recorder that contrary to the desire of the government to dilute the effect of lawyers' convention scheduled to be held on April 22 in Karachi there is encouraging response from the lawyers across the country.
