Created in 1948 in Fontainebleau (France), the World Conservation Union (IUCN) is the world's leading environmental organisation. Its role is to convene, mobilise, and empower organisations and people to better integrate conservation into economic and social development.
The IUCN is an observer at the UN General Assembly, with Headquarters in Gland, Switzerland. Members comprise a unique combination of States (83), Government Organisations (110) and NGOs (nearly 900) and highly credible network of voluntary individual experts (10,000+). As a science-based environmental organisation, the IUCN generates neutral, premium knowledge and bench mark products such as the Red List of Endangered Species and a classification system for protected areas.
The IUCN seeks to influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable. In Pakistan, the Union seeks to fulfil this mission by empowering communities to participate in the implementation of the National Conservation Strategy.
The efficacy and the role of ACC-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards (PERA) is really commendable in engaging more and more private and corporate partners to join hands in protecting and promoting the significance of environment.
The ACCA-WWF Pakistan Environmental Reporting Awards (PERA) has the potential to become an effective means for encouraging new and innovative ideas. With the zeal and fervour generated by the Awards, we hope that the organisations can share the efforts for spreading awareness for the well-being of the human race at a time when it is confronted with the un-surmountable challenges of urbanisation, climate change and global warming.
IUCN-The World Conservation Union is proud to be associated with the ACCA-WWF Pakistan Reporting Awards (PERA) and hopes to see even a greater and far fetching impact of the Awards in the years to come.
