The NWFP government has condemned the Pemra's notice to Aaj TV as unconstitutional, vowing to take up the matter in the coming session of the provincial assembly.
Talking to Aaj TV , the provincial minister for law and parliamentary affairs, Malik Zafar Azam said that those accusing the promotion of Talibanization has proved through the issuance of notice to Aaj TV that their tall claims of democracy are hallow and are mere dramatics.
The provincial law minister said that the Pemra's notice to Aaj TV for overing a talk-show of burning legal and constitutional issue is media's duty and responsibility serving of notice on such programme is unconstitutional and illegal. He said that the NWFP Assembly in its coming session would also discuss the matter.
Meanwhile, journalists, lawyers, social and political organisations in the province on Monday staged peaceful demonstration and took out a procession to condemn the Pemra's notice to Aaj TV .
In Peshawar Press Club, Khyber Union of Journalists, Tribal Union of Journalists, ANP, PPP, MMA, Aurat Foundation, Sarhad Bar Council and tribal elders staged a joint demonstration and marched towards the Governor House. The protesters also presented a memorandum to the Governor demanding immediate withdrawal of the notice threatening a nation wide movement unless the notice is withdrawn.
