Speakers at a conference on 'Women's Empowerment and Social Transformation' have called for giving economic empowerment to women so that they could play their due role in national development. The two-day international conference was organised by the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (TSCS) of the Punjab University, which concluded here on Tuesday.
Three parallel sessions in two main sessions held on the final day of the conference. The first session was held under the chairmanship of Federal Women Development and Youth Affairs Secretary Mahmood Saleem Mahmood while Dr Anderia Flashenberg of Germany, MNA Yasmin Rehman, Riffat Munawar and Nusrat Hashmi presented their papers.
Dr Bushra Mateen, vice-chancellor, Lahore College for Women University, chaired the second session while Dr Inayat Ullah, Shaeen Attiq-ur-Rchman, Professor Azra, Asghar Ali and Dr Amtal R. Chaudhry presented their papers.
The third session was chaired by Punjab Population Welfare Secretary Qazi Afaq, while Dr Dil Muhammad Malik, Fozia Feroz of Bangladesh, former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal, Mehreen Malik, Farida Shaheed, and Madiha Bhatti of USA presented their papers.
The first parallel session of the second main session was held under the chairmanship of Professor Ashraf Khan Kiyani, while Dr Shahid Siddiqui, Rabeela Rabat, Dr Muhammad Farooq, Kiyoko Sachori of Japan and Sumaira Safdar presented their papers.
The second session was chaired by Dr Muhammad Awan, while Dr Mukhtar, Dr Sadaf Ahmed, Professor Jamila Khalid, Roman Rafi, and Professor Mohammad Hafeez presented their papers. The third and final session was chaired by Nipa Director General Rahat-ul-Ain, while Dr Sobana Dewi of Sri Lanka, Ayesha Amjad, Dr Rukhsana Hassan, Runa Malik, and Professor Riffat Saqlain presented their papers.
