Firmness prevailed in the open market on Friday as the rupee maintained its overnight levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.65 and Rs 60.75 in interbank dealing, dealers said. Matching demand and supply position did not push the rupee to move any side in process of trading.
It is likely that the rupee might face divergent trend in days to come, they added. The rupee shined in terms of the euro, recovering 20 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 82.35 and Rs 82.45, they observed. Dollar's slight gains versus the major currencies in the world markets, helped the rupee to come out of the recent slide, they said.
INTERNATIONAL MARKETS: The yen slipped against the dollar and the euro after a slightly bigger drop-than-forecast in Japanese core consumer prices supported expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will take its time to further raise interest rates. The euro firmed to 162.60 yen from around 162.45 yen, crawling towards its record high of 162.80 yen hit the previous day.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee picked up one paisa more against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.64 and Rs 60.65, dealers said. Increased dollars' supply encouraged the rupee to hold its firmness against the dollar during the day, they said.
