By now, when we are half way through of completely revamping the country's taxation system, the phrase of Tax Administration Reforms Program has become a common diction in the business community. However, to me the most important aspect of the Reforms that has always remained as one of the top most priorities, is the creation of an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect between the tax-collectors and the taxpayers.
All our efforts from the introduction of Self Assessment System to the creation of RTO's, LTUs, MTUs, MCC's, MSC's, PACCS, STARR, STREAMS, REIMS, ONE CUSTOMS, anything and everything that CBR is doing through the Reforms, aims at better revenues through taxpayers facilitation and a constant communication that would itself generate a sense of ownership of the Reforms among our business community.
Through this National Conference on Tax Administration Reforms we are trying that all the major stake-holders, ie the government, the tax collectors and the taxpayers should sit together and re-evaluate the whole process and listen to each other's point of view so that we are in a better position to move forward towards the final phase of Reforms.
The Conference that has been organised by the CBR in collaboration with our esteemed taxpayers is yet another proof of our belief that economic prosperity of the country is our common goal and as such all of us whether the tax collectors or the taxpayers have to make a combined effort to make the Reforms a success - a success that would go a long way towards a respectable standing of our country in the community of nations.
