City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that there is no any ethnic clash in Karachi, whatever happened on 12th May was unfortunate and conspiracy against Karachi.
Karachi belongs to poor and labour class and it should not be used for political motives, as any break in the development process initiated in the city would affect the whole country.
The people of Karachi should not be depressed as we talk about life not death. There would be a new dawn of light and development in the city. He appealed all citizens to play their role in maintenance of law and order and development of the city and beat every conspiracy against the development of the city with full force.
He was addressing a packed press conference in Civic Centre after returning back from his New York trip on Monday where he was scheduled to attend the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit being held in New York by Clinton Foundation but due to the sad events in the city he had to cut down his visit.
He also announced that the city government is collecting data regarding lost of life and property to compensate the people and to help out the injured even though the city government had not any exclusive budget for this purpose. "The investigation agencies have started their work and once their investigation come out the situation would be more clearer as whoever was involved in the 12th May events and we are also developing a strategy to keep the citizens save in future," he added.
He also vowed that the city will be on its track within next couple of hours as he has ordered all official concerned to initiate work on all development projects with dedication.
Nazim Karachi said the present government has been striving hard to provide all basic civic amenities to the citizens without any discrimination. "During the last 18 months, the city government has taken steps to provide all civic facilities including healthcare, water and sewerage, parks, public transport, roads, development of infrastructure in all industrial zones and other sectors", he added. He also mentioned that the development process of city will be continued with firm determination and the citizens should enhance their 'sense of ownership' among them to develop the city.
Responding a question regarding the foreign investment in the city, he said the foreign investors have full faith on our government and they knew well that the clash erupted on May 12 was a conspiracy against the development of Karachi and Pakistan.
He asked all political parties to left alone the Karachi and not creates disturbance and politicising its development, as it is the backbone in the national economy. "As a representative of Karachi, I am deeply sorrow on the death of people and violence in the city", he said.
Nazim Karachi said that I will not criticise anyone or say anything controversial but I just want to say that the elements involved in the events of 12th May were not in favour of the development of the city and Pakistan. Regarding a question about the visit of Chief Justice to Karachi he said I will not comment on it.
