The Federal government has chalked out a five-year comprehensive plan for development of Mirani Dam command area in Makran region, which will cost Rs 650 million. The project PC-1 has been submitted to the Planning Commission for approval in the coming Central Development Working Party meeting.
After the approval of this five-year project of Ministry of Food and Agricultural, Balochistan Agriculture and Co-operative Department will supervise it for the development of barren land, orchard and fishery. The official said that under the project 33,200 acres land would be developed in Turbat, Dhasht, Tump, Mand, and Buleda Tehsil and parts of Kolwah Tehsil for the agricultural activities.
He said that on the right bank canal 118 watercourses would be constructed which would irrigate 20,800 acres of land, while 74 watercourses would be constructed on left bank canal, which would irrigate 12,400 acres of land.
The sources said that for the fruit production, land would also be prepared for the production of mangoes, dates, citrus, other fruits, cotton, vegetable with introduction of trickle irrigation system. He said that after the completion of dam at inauguration ceremony held recently, its allied structure including canals, distributaries, minors and network of watercourses for the supply of irrigation water from minors to the command area would be developed.
He said that after the development of these facilities in the command area, it would help to open new avenues for the agricultural extension and research activities including the improved farming, introduction of new technologies etc.
By the increasing of cultivation area and production under fodder livestock sector would also blossom rapidly not only to meet milk, meat and wool requirements of the people but would also contribute to the national economy as whole.
