Provincial Directorate of Human Rights (DHR) has decided to develop a website for fostering human rights sensitisation at gross roots and to guide the human rights victims about legal mechanism of redressal.
This was decided in a departmental meeting of the Directorate of Human Rights held here on Thursday, with Punjab Human Rights Minister Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed in the chair, disclosed an official. Director DHR, Farooq Altaf and other high-ranking officers also attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed in detail the prevailing human rights situation in the province and decided to educate the people about legal mechanism available for HR victims. The minister directed to develop the website in both Urdu and English languages so that people could easily understand.
The website would be launched through Punjab Information Technology Department, the meeting decided. This website would contain all related details about human rights protection, complaints redressal mechanism and other needed information. It would also include compendium of all relevant laws, the meeting decided.
The minister directed to launch campaign for human rights sensitisation at gross roots by involving other stakeholders including NGOs, media and the lawyers.
The human rights awareness would help develop an enlightened society and no hapless victim would be deprived of justice as the government is striving to build up a justice-friendly institutional mechanism for the benefit of the hapless people in the province, concluded the minister.
