Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) has procured 1,067,358 tonnes wheat, which is 82.10 percent of its 1,300,000 metric tonnes procurement target. However target may be increased. The quantity of wheat procured this year is higher than the corresponding period of previous year.
When 928,290 metric tonnes of wheat was procured till May 16, a spokesman of Passco said here on Wednesday. Wheat procurement operation 2007 is in full swing at all centres of Passco in a transparent manner and so far 12,520,499 (12.52 million)-gunny bags (Bardana) have been issued to the farmers. The issued Bardana is 96.31 percent of the total target of the procurement. There is no complaint regarding issuance of Bardana, he said.
Meanwhile, the complaint cells established at zonal level and head office Lahore is vigilant for any complaint, which will be redressed promptly, said the official. Managing Director Passco Ahmed Nawaz Saleem Mela and General Manager (Field) Abdul Majeed Chaudhry are monitoring the complaints cells. Procurement campaign will continue next month for which all arrangements have already been completed, it was learnt.
