The rupee shed five paisa against the dollar in the open market on Friday for buying and selling at Rs 60.85 and Rs 60.95, dealers said. Rising demand of dollars by the corporate sector pushed the open market rate higher, dealers said.
The rupee gained 16 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 81.50 and Rs 81.60 in process of trading, they said. In the world markets, the yen jumped against the dollar and euro after data showed Japan's core consumer prices fell at a slower pace in April as expected, keeping the Bank of Japan on track to lift interest rates in coming months.
The dollar dipped 0.2 percent to a low near 121.15 yen, down from 121.40 in late New York trade on Thursday and extending losses after triggering automatic sell orders around 121.25 yen.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold its overnight levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.73 and Rs 60.75, they said.
