Comstech's scientific advisor Dr Anwar Nasim has told the female students of the Islamic University that biotechnology has greatly impact on everyone's live, particularly, on women. The talk was organised at the women's hostel of the IIU on Wednesday. Foreign women students from different Islamic countries were also present on the occasion.
Highlighting the importance of biotechnology, former professor Nasim said on the occasion that the knowledge of biotechnology was essential for women because they prepared food at homes, therefore, they should know more about this science and disseminate the information to their husbands and children.
"Due to rapid increment of population especially in the Islamic world, we have to be conscious about implications of food security. The Muslim world must learn to increase food production, and genetic engineering could help us to achieve the feat."
In addition, genetic engineering would help us increase the cattle livestock as well as grow more vegetables. We do not eat vegetables to keep good health but also need it for feeding cow, goats, and buffaloes, which provide sinews to village industry.
Dr Nasim said: "Eating vegetables necessary not only for maintaining good health but also for feeding cow, goats, and buffaloes, which provide sinews to village industry. In addition we could save plants and food crops from the onslaught of pests through biotechnological methods."
He said the technology would also help us to convert the form of local products and shape it for expert, thereby increasing foreign earnings of the country. Dr Anwar Nasim said at a higher level biotechnology would help to cure malignant diseases such as cancer.
Stressing on the significance about biotechnology, he said that biotechnology would bring wealth and prosperity to the whole Muslim world, therefore, the Muslim Ummah needed to pay greater attention to this 5,000-year old science and its importance had been reasserted now, Dr Nasim observed.
