South Asian region would face a disastrous nuclear war if India failed to reciprocate the peace initiatives and proposals offered by Pakistan, said Shaukat Hussain Butt, senior Hurriyat leader and senior Vice President of Democratic Political Movement (DPM) here on Sunday.
"Pakistan, by showing flexibility on Kashmir stance, has opened avenues for the solution to longstanding Kashmir dispute and bring peace to South Asian region, but India is still reluctant to move forward," Butt said while talking to reporters.
He rejected the Indian claims that nothing is visible on Kashmir screen.
"In the presence of killings, crackdowns, loot and arson in Kashmir how we can call it peace movement of confidence building measures", he said. He emphasised that Pakistan should pressurise India to stop its aggression in Kashmir and give Kashmiris a real relief of the peace initiatives.
He said that Indian government wants to exploit the Kashmir issue for winning the next year general elections. He added that Pakistan and world community should realise Indian designs and make them bound to reciprocate Pakistani proposals for resolving Kashmir issue.
Shaukat said that a group of Hurriyat leaders decided to enter into dialogue with India in 2003 when BJP was ruling India and they kept Pakistan aside with the claim to end Indian aggression in Kashmir.
So far no progress has been made regarding the issue and the leaders have failed to get any little relief for Kashmiri people, he said. "They are still wandering to get any positive reply from India and not a single political prisoner was released," he said.
He called upon world community to put pressure on India to stop aggression in Kashmir and release all political prisoners who have been from decades in Indian jails.
