Inflation in leading industrialised countries grew by 2.2 percent in the 12 months to April from 2.4 percent in March, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development said on Tuesday.
Consumer prices for energy rose by 1.9 precent in the 12 months to the end of April from 3.5 percent in March. Consumer prices for food rose by 3.6 percent from 3.2 percent in March. Excluding food and energy, prices rose by 2.1 percent in the year to April, unchanged compared with March 2007, it said.
In the eurozone, price rose by 1.9 percent in the 12 months to April, unchanged compared with the year to March, it said. On a monthly basis prices in the euro area rose by 0.6 percent between March and April after 0.7 percent between February and March 2007.
In the United States prices increased by 2.6 percent over the twelve months to April after a year on year rise of 2.8 percent in March. In Japan consumer prices remained stable year on year in April after a decrease by 0.1 percent in the year to March. Over the twelve months to April consumer prices rose by 2.8 percent in Britain, 2.2 percent in Canada, 1.9 percent in Germany, 1.5 percent in Italy and 1.3 percent in France.
