Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) termed the doctor's arrests violation of human rights and warned that if operation against doctor community was not stopped, they will move the courts for justice, a spokesman of PMA Multan Chapter said.
PMA leader said that in the absence of law, the police officials have no right to take legal action against doctors who are not involved in the illegal business of organ transplantation.
Giving reference of kidney scandal the police unearthed, he said that the transplantation of kidneys was being conducted after agreement with the donors. Neither doctors were involved in kidnapping the victims nor they removed kidneys of the poor people without their will.
He alleged that the police officials have taken the victim, the applicant of the case against doctors, to unknown place, which is evident from the fact that some senior police officers were behind the 'plan' to involve some doctors in false case of kidney transplantation.
He further said that police allegation that some doctors removed kidney of the applicant after kidnapping him, are baseless. Spokesman said that on May 5, 2007 the applicant went to a renowned radiologist for a medical report and very next day he submitted his blood samples of which the report was received on May 8, 2007.
The same day his blood samples were sent to Islamabad laboratory for Tissue Typing and Cross Matching. The complainant's medical report was received from Islamabad within the next 24 hours. After receiving the report, the complainant of the FIR submitted a statement in a local court in which he admitted that he wanted to donate his one kidney absolutely free of cost, he said.
The PMA leader said that he had all documents of the said person's kidney transplantation as evidence, which would be later submitted, in the higher courts.
The PMA leader has demanded of the concerned higher authority to take initiative for law regarding organ transplantation in the country and to provide legal cover to the doctors' community.
