A three-day exhibition of contemporary arts of Pakistan opens here on Friday, which will showcase the diversity of expression from every region of the country.
Pakistan High Commissioner to Britain Dr Maleeha Lodhi will inaugurate the event titled "Winds of Change-A retrospective of contemporary Pakistani arts" arranged at the Gallery PratiDev in upscale Central London area of West Kensington in association with Ritu Jain and Ishi Jami.
On view will be works by well known artists, including Mehr Afroz, Abrar Ahmad, A.Q.Arif, Ismael Gulgee, M.Kazim, Hajra Mansur, Eqbal Mehdi, Mansoor Rahi, Mugheez Riaz, Farrukh Shahab, Tassaduq Sohail, Raja Changez Sultan, and Zoay. Speaking to APP, the show organisers Ms Jain and Jami said the exhibition would bring to the art lovers the different medium of expression.
The two art enthusiasts are committed to promoting art and artists from Asia to the global audience. Their goal is to showcase Asian art and expose the artists at major cultural cities around the world. Having achieved success and accolades at exhibitions in Delhi, Hong Kong, they now bring the same to London. They aspire to create a world-wide market for Asian art through their planned website called Gallery Art Asia.
The two share a deep appreciation for the diversity of art emerging from Pakistan. Ritu is from India and Ishi's roots are in Pakistan. They met in Shanghai, but their shared interests removed border issues as they worked together for a common cause.
Exploring the diversity of expression from every region of Pakistan, they were excited by the classic genres, the abstracts, figurative, the references to traditional schools of calligraphy and the extraordinary modern miniature development that has emerged in recent years.
They held their first exhibition of artwork from Pakistan in New Delhi titled: `Transcending Borders'. Energised and encouraged by the success of the show, Ishi and Ritu followed it up by organising another successful show in Hong Kong, titled: 'Passage to Pakistan'. Their present exhibition, 'Winds of Change", will be followed by one in Mumbai in December this year.
The Directors of Gallery PratiDev have over the last seven years showcased works by mostly new, emerging, South Asian artists. The aim of the Gallery is to educate people about art and to provide a platform for talented artists to display their works.
The collection on display by 13 highly renowned artists of Pakistan are a beautiful amalgamation of traditional and modern trends and include landscapes, figurative and architectural works, along with abstracts and calligraphic paintings.
