The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has recommended allocation of additional 125 mmcfd gas from Manzalai (NWFP) to SNGPL and 8 mmcfd from Bobi field to SSGCL, respectively, official sources told Business Recorder.
The Joint venture, comprising MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas (Operator 10 percent), OGDCL (30 percent), PPL (30 percent), POL (25 percent) and Government Holdings Limited (5 percent) had discovered gas and condensate at Manzalai-1 well located in Gurguri area of district Karak, NWFP.
Sources said the ECC has already allocated 215 mmcfd gas from this field to SNGPL. After undertaking further appraisal through Extended Well Test (EWT), MOL has firmed up gas reserves on the basis of which full field development plan has been planned.
According to this plan, the field is capable of producing at plateau rate of 340 mmcfd gas. Manzalai field is already producing gas @ 50 mmcfd through EWT facilities for injecting into SNGPL system and efforts are being made to enhance gas production from this field as early as possible so as to meet gas demand, the sources added.
It is located in the northern part of the country where acute gas shortage during peak load period is experienced. Injection of full volume from Manzalai field into SNGPL system will partially ease off the situation, the sources hoped.
With regard to Bobi oil complex, the sources said that OGDCL made a commercial discovery of oil and associated gas from the Bobi structure. The development of the field has been completed and it can produce 3500 bbl/day of crude oil, 120 tonnes/day LPG and 8 mmcfd associated gas.
The associated gas to be produced along with the crude oil will be available for a period of 8 years. In order to utilise the associated gas OGDCL has undertaken a review of transmission infrastructure and SSGCL is ready to offtake this gas at its Tando Adam valve assembly (delivery point) which is approximately (12" dia) 45-km from the Bobi complex. Sources said the final decision regarding allocation of gas would be taken by the ECC.
