Provincial Zakat Council, during its 97th meeting, has approved a grant of Rs 3.5 million as stipend for as many as 2,138 students studying at 12 seminaries of Sahiwal, Vehari and Sialkot districts.
This was told by the Chairman Provincial Zakat Council, Justice (Retd) Muhammad Akram Baittu while presiding over a meeting, here on Wednesday. Muhammad Akram Baittu maintained that sanction of the said amount was made in the light of recommendations forwarded by the concerned District Zakat Committees.
Under the Deeni stipend programme, seminary students are provided with food, residence, clothes and other necessities of life. During the meeting, the cases of Rajanpur's Madrassas with 814 students studying at also came under discussion.
He said that the proposed allocated amount of Zakat fund for Rajanpur is Rs 2.07 million. He said that the provision of zakat fund to Rajanpur district had been conditioned with the inspection of these Madrassas. He said that Dr Mehmood-ul-Hassan Arif, member council had been directed to submit a comprehensive report in this regard so that sanction of the funds might be released within maximum possible short time.
