Ministry of Education honoured as many as 248 students with presidential awards for securing top position in examinations of SSC, HSC, O and A level, across the country. Federal Minister for Education Lieutenant General Javed Ashraf Qazi (Retd) gave these awards and certificates to the distinguished achievers.
Addressing the ceremony, minister said the government was committed to ensuring quality education to prepare youth for future challenges. He said that youth were future leaders of the country and newly revised curriculum meeting contemporary and future challenges would go a long way to prepare them for national development.
He said lack of proper education was the main reason for prevalent ignorance in the society and the government would make no compromise in eliminating the menace.
Unlike the past, minister said strict criteria had been laid down to provide quality books for the revised curriculum to effectively put across the ethos of contents. Referring to Lal Masjid issue, the minister said these people were living in a tunnel, having no morality and knowing nothing about the world.
"We cannot live in isolation, we have to put ourselves in line with the modern day requirements", the minister remarked. He said Islam was a religion of peace and justice, and did not permit illegal occupation of any land while these people had grabbed the land of the Ministry of Education, the minister added.
