About 3,500 cusecs of water is being discharged daily from Manchar Lake to river Indus through Aral Wah and Danistar Wah to release the pressure of increasing floodwater that submerged a vast area of Dadu, Maher, Johi and Khairpur Nathan Shah Talukas of district Dadu.
The officers of the Irrigation Department had given five cuts to MNV Drain with objective to drain the floodwater accumulated in Kaatcho area and posing threats to the life of the area people, a spokesman of the District Government Dadu informed on Wednesday.
The gushing floodwater is continuously coming from the areas of Balochistan through natural drains of Kheer Thar Range of mountain, he said, adding that gushing floodwater from those natural drains of the mountain, locally called as "Naai" had submerged a vast area of Kaatcho, located between Flood Protective Bund and MNV Drain.
A large number of villages, situated in 12 Union Councils of Dadu, Maher, Johi and Khairpur Nathan Shah Talukas have been submerged and the district administration along with Pakistan Army has been engaged in shifting the marooned people of these villages to the relief camps, established at safer places. Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi continuously monitoring the rescue and relief operation in the affected area.
Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim alongwith Irrigation Nadir Akmal Leghari also visited the flood-affected areas on Tuesday, where they personally reviewed the situation and issued directives to authorities concerned.
The District government Dadu has established relief and medical camps at safer places of the flood-hit areas where shelter has been provided to affected people. Besides distribution of foodstuff, the medics and paramedics also providing medical treatment to the victims.
