The Small Traders Organisation (STO) Sukkur and exports of the rice, fruit and vegetable appealed to the authorities of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) not to abolish the office of the then Export Promotion Bureau, now TDAP in Sukkur, a press release said on Tuesday.
They said that exporters of this region exporting dry dates, handicrafts, red chilly and dates would face hardship to liaison with the export development body in case the said office was closed.
They said that this area caters to a considerable amount of exports of vegetables, rice and other traditional items however, they appealed the authorities of TDAP to change this decision in the interest of the people of the region.
He said that this office, which covers the export activities of entire upper Sindh, should not be abolished. There are good prospects of rice, dates, dry dates, fruits and vegetables, handicraft exports for which vigorous efforts should be undertaken by the staff posted here, they said.
Export of these items could be doubled if proper guidance is provided to the intending exporters by holding seminars from time to time and providing informative literature to them by the field staff, which was lacking at present.
They said that everyone knew the importance of Sukkur being a hub town and having a historical commercial importance. Keeping in view this importance, the office of former Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) was shifted from Larkana to Sukkur.
