Malaysians have been advised to refrain from travelling to Pakistan in view of the recent wave of violence and bomb attacks in the southern part of the country. "The situation in Pakistan is unstable. I think it is very dangerous for our people to go there unless there is a pressing need to go", Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar was quoted as saying by The Star newspaper on Friday.
"So, we should avoid going there so that we don't get caught in the cross fire," he said after opening and moderating a Merdeka forum organised by the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (Ikmas) at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here. Syed Hamid was asked to comment on bomb blast incidents in Pakistan including an incident where a vehicle carrying Chinese citizens was targeted by a suicide bomber in the south-western town of Hub outside Karachi, killing at least 30 Pakistanis on Thursday.
Asked about the situation of Malaysian students in Pakistan, Syed Hamid said he had received a report saying that they were all right and were not facing any problem.
