National Assembly standing committee on privatisation and investment on Friday recommended that the federal government may hand over Hazara Phosphate and Fertiliser Limited (HPFL) to the government of NWFP to stabilise it and also ensure the supply of raw material as it is costing high freight charges from Karachi to HPFL located at Haripur.
The committee met under the Chairmanship of Syed Muhammad Asghar Shah, Member National Assembly to discuss the privatisation of Hazara Phosphate and Fertiliser Limited (HPFL).
The committee appreciated the privatisation policy of the government however expressed its concern over the poor response of the investors in the privatisation of HPFL. The committee recommended that reproductive health-care of population welfare may also be privatised in order to provide better services to the masses, says a press release received here.
Minister for Privatisation Zahid Hamid briefed that the privatisation of HPFL could not be completed as only Warble (Pvt) deposited the earnest money by closing date, consequently, bidding had to be cancelled.
He apprised that the Privatisation Commission had decided to raise this issue in the inter-ministerial committee and also negotiate with the government of NWFP for its adequate solution.
Later the minister also gave an over view of those units, which are going to be privatised in future. The meeting was attended by Zahid Hamid, Minister for Privatisation, Mian Shamim Haider, Minister for Sports, MNAs Ms Fauzia Wahab, Malik Ghulam Murtaza Maitla, Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Ms Gul-e-Farkhanda, Mrs Nayyar Sultaana, Dewan Syed Jafar Hussain Bokhari and Qari Muhammad Yousaf.
