The Classmate PC was unveiled by the Intel here on July 18. The PC is a small, mobile-learning device that has been specially developed for students in the emerging market, said Naila Kassim at a briefing held at a local hotel.
She was of the view that the Intel is constantly working to foster innovation, creativity and locally driven content which will give the children of emerging markets the support to communicate world-wide.
Naila said the Classmate PC would be introduced at a pilot project in four schools in the country soon - two in Islamabad and one each in Karachi and Lahore.
She was of the view that the device was aimed at bridging the digital divide in the developing nations.
It was also a step towards providing an affordable solution to access to technology.
Naila further pointed out that Intel's five years objectives of the World Ahead Programme are to extend broad-based PC access to the world's next billion users while training 10 million more teachers on the use of technology in education and the possibility of reaching another one billion users.
