The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) and its partners will immunise 630,000 children between the age of six-month to 15-year to prevent any possible measles outbreak in the flood-hit areas.
The Unicef plans to provide potable water and hygienic kits to the displaced people and sensitise children and their families about the issues of water-born diseases, the organisation's sources said here on Thursday. The Unicef has supported essential health services in the area through mobile health teams and provided medicines, supplies and equipment.
The Unicef will help set up supplementary feeding programmes to prevent child and woman malnutrition and provide with essential school supplies in the flood-affected districts of Sindh and Balochistan to ensure children's access to education. It is planning to build the capacity of teachers in dealing with traumatised children in schools.
The United Nations will raise funds and distribute among the flood victims through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The focus of rehabilitation authorities and aid workers is to provide shelter, water and sanitation, health and food.
