The Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao informed the National Assembly on Wednesday that the government has started projects for enhancing capacity of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) to curb terrorism, at an estimated cost of Rs 15.35 billion.
He stated this in a written answer to a question raised by Mohammad Laeeque Khan to inform the Lower House regarding the steps taken to root out the terrorism. Sherpao said to effectively combat terrorism and other crimes an Automated Finger Prints Identification System has been launched at FIA with the cost of Rs 1.1 billion and so far 2,40,000 finger prints have been taken.
Immigration Control System 'PISCES' is installed at 18 entry and exit points and the system is fully functional at 11 ports Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan and Faisalabad airports, KPT and Ghass Bandar seaports, Wagah Railway Station and Wagah land route, the Minister said.
The Federal Government and all the Provincial Governments have recently promulgated the Madrassa Registration Ordinance and it was mandated for every Madrassa to get registered with the government and so far 12,395 Madaris have been registered out of approximately 13,500 Madaris, Sherpao said.
The new religious schools can now be opened only after obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government. Qari Fayyaz-ur-Rehman asked the Interior Minister to inform the House regarding the compensation granted to the bereaved families of those persons who suffered financial loss due to terrorism during the previous year.
Interior Minister replied that an amount of Rs 469.545 million was granted as compensation to the bereaved families of those who were killed in the incidents of terrorism during the, 2006-07.
Sherpao said the provincial governments have their own policies to assist those who suffered financial loss due to acts of terrorism during this period. Yasmeen Rehman of PPP asked the Interior Minister for the names and the number of illegal immigrants presently detained in jails and the total number of illegal women immigrants arrested during the last year and the steps taken to stop the illegal immigrants in the country.
Aftab Sherpao replied that presently 220 illegal immigrants are detained in different jails and 107 women illegal immigrants were arrested during the last three years.
