German coach Monika Staab's five-day coaching clinic began in Lahore's Wapda sports complex in Kot Lakhpat on Monday. High-profile trainer of Germany's famous 1.FFK Frankfurt FC had already conducted same kind of clinics in Karachi (25-28 July) and Quetta (July 30- August 2).
She is in Lahore to organise the Phase-III of nation-wide clinics. Former FIFA referee Arif Siddiqui and Uzma Zaidi will act as coordinators in Kot Lakhpat's clinic ending on August 10. Her next assignment will begin between August 11- 15, when she will train and pick talented ladies of Peshawar, Fata, Northern Areas, AJK and Islamabad.
Pakistan Wapda Sports Board's Vice President Khalid Mehmood opened the clinic and thanked the PFF chief for awarding the clinic to Wapda. "Players from 35 districts of Punjab, Sports Sciences Women Club -are being asked to join Wapda's players during clinic, and it is honour that Wapda is once again joined their hands with PFF for women soccer promotion.
Same venue was in utilised in May 2006 when Pakistan Women Futsal team was formed and took part in third Amman Women's Football Futsal championship hosted by Jordan Football Association at Amman," Khalid Mahmood said.
In her speech, Monika said, "I have come to know All Indian Football Federation had hosted their 15th National Women Championship last May and Pakistan Football Federation is looking for their third in few days from now. The comparison is nothing for me, the main thing is that the ladies soccer had been launched in Pakistan and it was make possible by dedication of PFF's President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. I noticed in first two phases that girls in this part of world have a love, commitment and eagerness for the game. It is healthy sign considering the cultural barriers in the Islamic country."
