The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday rejected the government's appeal against former Commerce Minister Ahmed Mukhtar's acquittal in rice export case. SHC said the government's review petition against Ahmed Mukhtar was not admissible.
Mukhtar was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in rice export case in May 2000. He was put behind the bars for 17 months. He contested his case before in the court of law and was acquitted by NAB court in 2002.
The government filed a review petition before SHC seeking review of NAB orders of acquitting Ahmed Mukhtar. Talking to Business Recorder from Lahore after SHC's judgement, Mukhtar said he was innocent and the court's orders of upholding NAB court's decision was clear evidence. He said he believes that politics is a source for the people's welfare and not to mint money through unfair means.
