Dr Hazrat Hussain Deputy Director, National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec) has said that economic growth was associated with skill development, adding that education and training could enable the marginalised ones to escape poverty.
Giving a presentation here on 'A vision for national skills strategy' in a meeting held here at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday, he said technological advancements, the emergence of global markets and international competition has necessitated the demand for diversified industrial skills and knowledge.
Additional Chief Secretary NWFP Ghulam Dastagir Akhtar presided over the meeting. Others who attended the meeting included: Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Shah Wali Khan, Secretary Establishment Mian Sahib Jan, Secretary Industries Abdul Khaliq, Executive Director Navtec Athar and other high ranking government officials.
He proposed that a truly effective skills development system must have skills for women, training for disadvantaged regions, integration of informal economy workers, flexible training delivery, expanded geographical provision, mobility of skilled workers, carrier guidance and placement and vocational education in schools.
Additional Chief Secretary while expressing views on this occasion thanked the participants for sharing their vision candidly. The ACS NWFP expressed the hope that Navtec will bridge the missing links between various bodies working for skill development like Labour, Manpower, Workers Welfare Board and Skill Development Councils working in various provinces.
