Robust communication system is vital to transfer research and experimental findings to both large and small-scale growers of far-flung areas. This was stated by Chairman Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (Parc) Dr M. E. Tasneem while talking to APP on Wednesday.
He said that half of the country's population had been living in rural areas, playing an important role towards boosting up country's economy. However, he said: "the communication system to educate the rural people of far-flung areas is very low which needed to be improved to train them to take maximum advantage of rural agriculture resources."
The chairman informed that Parc had already started updating its website and had also launched television and radio programs, adding that agriculture experts were providing guidance about crop, seeds, pesticides and veterinary health through these programmed all across the country.
Dr Tasneem said besides Parc UAN helpline had also been set up to provide immediate help and guidance to the farmers to resolve their problems.
Seven Regional Technology Transfer Institute (RTTI) and nine Research and Information Centers have also been providing services in different regions of the country, besides conducting research for agriculture uplift.
He said Parc scientist and experts also provided free technical assistance to the growers, adding that Council was also importing technology to facilitate the farmers.
Parc scientists have introduced Zero Tillage machine which minimise the cultivation expenditure including labour, power, irrigation and fertilisers. This technology saves about 30 percent labour and 50 percent energy expenses besides enhancing the yield to double.
Dr Tasneem said that bio-fuel crops had been introduced as alternative source of energy to overcome energy problems which he said, was badly effecting the national economy.
