Defence Society Residence Association (DSRA) has held the Clifton Cantonment Board responsible for unplanned fragile civic infrastructure in the area, which caused problems during and after recent rains to the residents and crippled the social and commercial activities there.
Addressing a press conference, DSRA's Honorary Secretary Asad H. Qizilbash and DSRA President Captain Haleem A Siddiqui on Thursday, pointed out that almost all areas of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) had been flooded with rainwater.
They said that accumulated rainwater had badly damaged millions of rupees of belongings of the residents, and demanded of the concerned authorities to flush out the accumulated rainwater immediately
In the wake of stagnant rainwater, residents of phases IV, V and VI had shifted to other parts of the metropolis, including North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal "B" Area, they added.
Despite annual budget of rupees one billion for the Clifton Cantonment Board, the grim situation arose after the rain exposed inefficient consultancy on development of drainage, sewerage and road, they added.
They criticised the Cantonment Board and DHA officials for their failure in flushing out the accumulated rainwater from the area, saying that they paid the least attention to this issue.
