Security forces, backed by helicopters, clashed with militants in the troubled tribal region on Thursday, killing 10 of them, the army said. Two soldiers were killed and four others injured in a roadside bomb in the region.
The security forces launched a counter attack after the militants attacked an army convoy in the South Waziristan tribal region at 3:30pm, army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said.
He said the militants started heavy firing at the convoy as it was heading to Wana, the center of South Waziristan, the spokesman told TV channels. He further said the miscreants were hiding in mountains and houses to target the security forces.
He said around 12 miscreants were also injured in exchange of fire. He said the ground forces sought support of helicopters, which hit positions of the militants. He said the security forces observed that the militants took away dead bodies of their colleagues.
Two soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb in North Waziristan, the army spokesman said. He said the army convoy was heading to a border town Spinwam from Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan, when hit by a landmine. Officials said that two vehicles were also destroyed in the blast.
